Identity Theft Protection
Identity theft is the fastest growing
crime in the world and there's currently no way to stop it.
The misconception is that identity theft only has to do with
your credit cards or bank accounts and that's simply not true.
Fraud in those areas have been around for years, but when
someone uses your information for a speeding ticket or a
hospital visit or a job application or when arrested these are
forms of identity theft that are far more cancerous and
destructive.
What's being called
identity theft protection
by the banks and insurance companies is almost worthless and
here's why. Any identity theft protection or prevention plan
should give you credit monitoring or credit alerts and all of
them to our knowledge do. The problem isn't if the credit alerts
are instantaneous or if they occur every 30 days. The problem is
most forms of identity theft will not show up on your credit
report. Over 70% of identity theft crimes are not related to
finances. Thieves are more interested in getting medical
services, jobs, apartments and driver's licenses with your
information than your $1,000 paycheck.
The identity theft services of the banks and insurance
companies aren't of much value. Think of this. Five years ago if
you saw a fraudulent charge customer service would credit you
the charges and the fraud was covered by the high interest rates
and fees. With banks your money is federally insured so the same
would apply. Now, however, the banks want you to pay $10 to $12
per month for a service that you already own.
What about identity theft reimbursement plans? These
reimbursement plans made popular by companies like AIG and
Lifelock don't help either simply because it is reimbursement,
which means you have to spend the money first then if it's
proven that it really was identity theft and not a scam they'll
reimburse the money you spent trying to prove your innocence.
According to the FTC victims can spend well over $1,000 and
hundreds of hours in the process, so if you have the money to
spend on lawyers and investigators or you have the time to
travel from city to city then those plans really aren't for you.
You need identity
theft restoration services to let experts handle these
serious matters for you. You'll need a lawyer to help you fight
the collection agencies and courts looking to garnish your
wages. You'll need investigators to gather evidence that proves
your innocence. Identity theft restoration should cover the full
gamut of areas that thieves affecting today and the areas
they'll affect tomorrow. Fortunately, there is one very well
known investigative company that serves the average person,
Kroll, Inc.
